Support & FAQ

Everything you need to get IRONBEAM working perfectly.

1
Install IRONBEAM on your Windows PC

Download the installer from ironbeam.ca/download and run it. IRONBEAM launches automatically and shows your IP address in the title bar.

2
Get the iPhone app

Download IRONBEAM from the App Store. Make sure your iPhone and PC are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.

3
Connect

Open the iPhone app, enter the IP address shown in the IRONBEAM desktop window (e.g. 192.168.1.42), and tap Connect. The green dot means you're live.

Frequently asked questions

The most common cause is that the two devices are not on the same Wi-Fi network. Check the following:

  • Your iPhone and PC must be on the exact same Wi-Fi network — not one on 5 GHz and one on 2.4 GHz with different names
  • Make sure IRONBEAM is running on your PC and hasn't been minimized to the system tray
  • Check the IP address — it's shown in the IRONBEAM desktop title bar. Re-enter it in the iPhone app
  • Your Windows Firewall may be blocking port 7878. Try temporarily disabling it to test
  • Some corporate or guest Wi-Fi networks block device-to-device communication ("AP Isolation"). Switch to your home network

Files sent from your iPhone are saved to a folder called IronBeam in your Windows home directory: C:\Users\YourName\IronBeam\

You can also click Open folder in the IRONBEAM desktop app to go there directly.

There are two ways:

  • Drag and drop — drag any file from Windows Explorer onto the glowing portal in the center of the IRONBEAM desktop app
  • Push button — files already in your IronBeam folder appear on the right side of the desktop app. Click the 📤 button next to any file to push it to your iPhone

On your iPhone, switch to the Receive tab to see and download files sent from your PC.

Yes — IRONBEAM works entirely on your local network. No internet connection is required or used during transfers. Your router is the only network infrastructure involved. This also means IRONBEAM works when your internet is down.

No. IRONBEAM imposes no file size restrictions. You can transfer videos, raw photos, large archives — anything. Transfer speed depends on your Wi-Fi network speed, and your PC needs enough disk space to receive files.

IRONBEAM runs a small local server on port 7878 so your iPhone can connect to it. Windows Firewall prompts you the first time any app listens on a network port. Click Allow for Private Networks to let your iPhone connect. You can leave "Public Networks" unchecked.

Local IP addresses can change when your router reassigns them (usually after a restart). Just look at the current IP in the IRONBEAM desktop title bar and re-enter it in the iPhone app. To prevent this in the future, you can set a static IP for your PC in your router's settings (DHCP reservation).

Yes. When you close the IRONBEAM desktop window, it minimizes to the system tray (near the clock in your taskbar) rather than quitting. This lets your iPhone stay connected even when the main window is hidden. Right-click the tray icon to quit IRONBEAM completely.

IRONBEAM is free to download and try with no account or credit card required. A Pro subscription ($3.69/month or $29.99/year) unlocks unlimited transfers. You can cancel anytime — no questions asked.
